The CERN Quantum Technology Initiative: a Hub for Collaborative R&D in Quantum Information Science

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, operates the largest particle accelerator in the world and is at the core of international programmes on fundamental physics research. CERN has a long tradition of collaboration and excellence in research. Quantum Technology have seen an incredible growth in the past few years in all their aspects. After a couple of years of pilot investigations, CERN has announced in June 2020 the creation of its own Quantum Technology Initiative to support the HEP community exploration of the potential of quantum technologies in High-Energy Physics research, and contribute to their further development. This talk highlights the main objectives of the initiative in quantum computing, sensing, communications, and theory, provide education and training opportunities, and foster the development of a broad hub for international collaboration across science and industry.
